Leisure Travel Insurance available to persons covered under the University’s Business Travel Insurance Policy

Chubb offers a tailored Leisure Travel Insurance solution which has been designed to provide cover to persons who have been, or are currently, covered whilst travelling on the business of their university under a Chubb Business Travel Insurance Policy.

Leisure Travel Insurance Options:

1.  Chubb Travel Insurance Single Trip - for a single Trip commencing anywhere in the world (subject to the eligibility criteria, terms, conditions and exclusions) and for a period not greater than three (3) months each Journey. If a period greater than three (3) months is required, You have the option to contact Chubb to request the maximum period of Your Chubb Travel Insurance Single Trip Policy to be extended for up to a further three (3) months, however this request must be received before the End Date shown on Your Certificate of Insurance.

The maximum combined period of insurance under the Chubb Business Travel Insurance and Chubb Travel Insurance Single Trip is limited to twelve (12) months.

2.   Chubb Travel Insurance Annual Multi-Trip - for Trips which commence and end at Your Home in Australia. For a period not greater than the maximum number of consecutive days You selected (You can select the maximum of either thirty (30) or sixty (60) or ninety (90) consecutive days) as specified on Your Certificate of Insurance. Annual Multi-Trip is not available for any Trip that commences or ends outside of Australia.

Chubb Travel Insurance Single Trip Policy eligibility criteria:

You can apply for cover under a Chubb Travel Insurance Single Trip Policy:

  1. if You meet the eligibility criteria shown page 4 in the Chubb Travel Insurance Single Trip Product Disclosure Statement; and
  2. for Your Trip which starts or ends at Home in Australia or Your Usual Place of Residence outside of Australia, if You are a Covered Person under the Chubb Business Travel Insurance Policy and You have received written confirmation of cover from the Policyholder (i.e. the university);
  3. if You are at least eighteen (18) years of age on the Issue Date of the Chubb Travel Insurance Single Trip Policy and not older than ninety (80) years of age on the Start Date of the Chubb Travel Insurance Single Trip Policy;
  4. if Your Journey meets the definition of Trip in the Chubb Travel Insurance Single Trip Supplementary Product Disclosure Statement (SPDS), also shown in the table below:

The below table of definitions are associated with the Chubb Travel Insurance Single Trip Policy only:

Certificate of Insurance means the document We provide You which contains details of the cover provided to You by Us.
Chubb Business Travel Insurance Policy means a business travel insurance policy underwritten by Chubb Insurance Australia Limited (Chubb) (ABN 23 001 642 020, AFS Licence No. 239687).
Country of Assignment means the country that the Covered Person is visiting or on aplacement to (excluding Australia) in either case as arranged by the Policyholder.
Covered Person means a Covered Person as defined under Chubb Business Travel Insurance Policy.
End Date means the date You complete Your Trip as shown on Your Certificate of Insurance.
Home means Your usual place of residence in Australia.
Insured means the person named as the Insured on the Certificate of Insurance and who pays the premiums to Us in respect of Insured Persons. 
Insured Persons means the persons named in Your Certificate of Insurance who satisfy the eligibility requirements and for which premium has been paid or agreed to be paid.
Issue Date means the date We agree to provide insurance under the Policy as shown on Your Certificate of Insurance.
Policy means Your policy wording and Product Disclosure Statement (PDS) and Certificate of Insurance and any other document that We tell You forms part of Your Policy describing the insurance contract between You and Us. 
Policyholder means the Policyholder as defined under a Chubb Business Travel Insurance Policy.
Start Date means the date You commence Your Trip as shown on Your Certificate of Insurance Trip
Usual Place of Residence means Your usual place of residence in Your Country of Assignment.
You, Your means the Insured Person(s) named in the Certificate of Insurance.

Chubb Travel Insurance Annual Multi-Trip Policy eligibility criteria:

You can apply for cover under an Annual Multi-Trip Travel Protection Policy:

  1. if You meet the eligibility criteria shown page 4 in the Chubb Travel Insurance Annual Multi-Trip Product Disclosure Statement; and
  2. for Your Trip which starts and end at Your Home in Australia;
  3. if You are at least eighteen (18) years of age on the Issue Date of the Chubb Travel Insurance Annual Multi-Trip Policy and not older than eighty (70) years of age on the Start Date of the Chubb Travel Insurance Annual Multi-Trip Policy;

The below table of definitions are associated with the Chubb Travel Insurance Annual Multi-Trip Policy only:

Certificate of Insurance means the document We provide You which contains details of the cover provided to You by Us.
Home means Your usual place of residence in Australia.
Issue Date means the date We agree to provide insurance under the Policy (including when Your Policy has been renewed) as shown on Your Certificate of Insurance.
Policy means Your policy wording and Product Disclosure Statement (PDS) and Certificate of Insurance and any other document that We tell You forms part of Your Policy describing the insurance contract between You and Us.
Start Date
means:
(a) the date You selected on original purchase of Your Policy as shown on Your Certificate of Insurance; or
(b) in respect of renewal, the date shown on Your Certificate of Insurance.
Trip means a trip made during the Period of Insurance by You and shall commence from the time:
(a) For Overseas Trips, from the time You leave Your Home or usual place of employment in Australia to proceed directly to the place of embarkation in Australia to commence travel to the intended destination(s) Overseas and shall terminate upon Your arrival Home or after the maximum number of consecutive days (You have selected as specified on Your Certificate of Insurance) from commencement, whichever is earlier;
(b) For domestic Trips, from the time You leave Your Home or usual place of employment in Australia to commence travel and involves You travelling more than a one hundred (100) kilometre radius from Your Home for at least one (1) paid overnight stay and shall terminate upon Your arrival Home or after the maximum number of consecutive days (You have selected as specified on Your Certificate of Insurance) from commencement, whichever is earlier.
You, Your means the Insured Person(s) named in the Certificate of Insurance.

Where can my Chubb Travel Insurance Single Trip Policy Trip commence?

1. when You leave Your Home in Australia; or when
2. You leave Your Usual Place of Residence within Your Country of Assignment.

Where must my Chubb Travel Insurance Single Trip Policy Trip end?

1. when You return to Your Home in Australia; or
2. when You return to Your Usual Place of Residence.

When will my Chubb Travel Insurance Single Trip Policy Trip commence?

1. Cover under Section 13 – Trip Cancellation or Postponement starts from the Issue Date and continues until the Start Date.
2. All other cover commences from the Start Date when You leave Your Home in Australia or when You leave Your Usual Place of Residence within Your Country of Assignment.

When will my Chubb Travel Insurance Single Trip Policy Trip end?

1. On the End Date, or earlier where;
2. You return to Your Home in Australia or when You return to Your Usual Place of Residence in You Country of Assignment.

Can I purchase a Chubb Travel Insurance Single Trip Policy for a Trip which commences prior to, during or after the end of a Trip where I am a Covered Person under a Chubb Business Travel Insurance Policy?

  • Yes, if You meet the eligibility criteria (as above).

Can I purchase a Chubb Travel Insurance Single Trip Policy for a Trip within my Country of Assignment?

  • Yes, if You meet the eligibility criteria (as above).
  • For Trips within Your Country of Assignment, please select the location of Your Country of Assignment as the Destination (when applying online). 

Can I purchase a Chubb Travel Insurance Single Trip Policy if I am not a Covered Person under a Chubb Business Travel Insurance Policy?

  • If You are not a Covered Person under a Chubb Business Trip Travel Insurance Policy, You can purchase a Chubb Travel Insurance Single Trip Policy for a leisure travel Trip which commences and ends in Australia. 
  • There is no option for You to purchase a Chubb Travel Insurance Single Trip Policy for any Trip which commences or ends outside of Australia.

Can I purchase a Chubb Travel Insurance Annual Multi-Trip Policy for a Trip which commences or ends outside of Australia?

  • There is no option to purchase a Chubb Travel Insurance Annual Multi-TripPolicy to cover Trips other than those that commence and end in Australia.

I will be travelling for leisure for a total of 3 weeks which will consist of 1 week prior to, and then 2 weeks following, the university business trip for which I will be a Covered Person under the Chubb Business Travel Insurance Policy; can I purchase a Chubb Travel Insurance Single Trip Policy for the total 3 weeks leisure travel? 

  • For Your leisure Chubb Travel Insurance Single Trip, You can purchase two Chubb Travel Insurance Single Trip Policies, one for the first leisure travel Trip preceding Your work placement and the other for the second leisure travel Trip following Your work placement.

For example:

  • 1 week leisure travel prior to university exchange/secondment – the first Chubb Travel Insurance Single Trip Policy is purchased.
  • 1 month university exchange/secondment – the university Business Travel Insurance Policy applies.
  • 2 week leisure travel after to university exchange/secondment – a second Chubb Travel Insurance Single Trip Policy is purchased.
